How do you trade crypto on a funded account?

Intermediate3 min readMyFundedCapital Research · rules as of 17 Oct 2026

Short answer

Size crypto in coins from a fixed dollar risk, expect wide daily ranges, remember that the daily loss limit still resets at the same time every day, and close before the weekend unless you bought the Weekend Holding add-on.

01

Bitcoin, Ether and Solana trade in the Terminal on the 1-Step, 2-Step and Instant Funded.

02

Coins = risk in dollars ÷ stop distance in dollars. Wide stops mean small positions.

03

Crypto never closes, but your daily limit still resets at 17:00 New York time.

What you can trade

On the 1-Step, 2-Step and Instant Funded, the Terminal lists the three largest crypto markets: Bitcoin (BTCUSDT), Ether (ETHUSDT) and Solana (SOLUSDT). They share the same order ticket, limits and tools as forex and metals. Open each instrument’s details to see contract size, commission, swap and trading hours.

Crypto prices move on liquidity, risk appetite, large flows and crypto-specific news. They often react to the same US data as stocks, and moves of several percent in a day are normal.

Liquidity is thinner at weekends and during the Asian night, which can make moves sharper. Many traders focus on the hours when European and US markets are open and volume is highest.

Leverage on crypto

On Instant Funded the leverage on crypto is 1:2, far lower than the 1:30 on forex. That is deliberate: a market that moves this much needs more margin per dollar of exposure. On the 1-Step and 2-Step, read the crypto leverage in the instrument details.

Low leverage does not make crypto safe. The loss limits are the same as on any market: 5% a day on the Challenges and 3% on Instant Funded. What protects you is the size of the position, not the margin it uses.

Sizing in coins

The formula is coins = risk in dollars ÷ stop distance in dollars.

Worked example: a $10,000 account risking 0.5% risks $50. If Bitcoin trades at $64,000 and your stop is $1,000 away, the size is $50 ÷ $1,000 = 0.05 BTC. If the stop hits, you lose $50 plus any costs. The same $50 on Solana with a $4 stop gives 12.5 SOL.

Because crypto ranges are wide, stops that respect the market are wide too. Keep the dollar risk fixed and let the position shrink. If the ticket cannot go as small as your calculation, the trade does not fit your risk, and you skip it. The order ticket shows the loss at your stop and what is left of each limit before you send the order.

Around the clock, but your rules are not

Crypto markets trade every day, but the account rules keep their own clock:

  • Daily reset. The daily loss limit is measured from the previous end-of-day closed balance and resets at 17:00 New York time, the same as forex.
  • Weekends. Holding open positions over the weekend requires the Weekend Holding add-on. Without it, close before the weekend.
  • Inactivity. Place at least one trade every 30 days to keep the account active; inactivity can count as a hard breach, so plan breaks with that in mind.

A night of crypto volatility counts against the next day’s limit as soon as the reset passes, so do not leave a large position open while you sleep. Mark the reset in your own time zone: a loss just before it belongs to the old day, a loss just after it to the new one.

Questions

Is Bitcoin or Solana easier to trade?

Neither is easier, but Bitcoin usually moves less in percentage terms than Solana, so the same dollar risk allows a tighter stop relative to price.

Do open crypto losses count toward the daily limit?

Yes. The floor is checked against equity, so an open loss counts the same as a closed one.
