Lesson 8 of 10 · Intermediate

Can you trade news or hold over the weekend?

By MFC Research · rules current as of 3 Oct 2026

Short answer

Only with the right permissions. Instant Funded blocks new positions around major news without its News Trading add-on, the 2-Step restricts trading right around high-impact releases, and weekend holding is an add-on where it applies.

News windows

On Instant Funded you may not open a position within 3 minutes before or after a major news release unless you bought the News Trading add-on. On the 2-Step, trading is restricted from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after high-impact news. Check the program rules for the 1-Step and your account’s add-ons before trading a release.

Weekend holding

Holding positions over the weekend requires the Weekend Holding add-on where the program offers it. Without it, close positions before the Friday session ends.

What an add-on does not change

An add-on gives a permission; it does not widen the loss limits, remove the consistency rule or allow prohibited strategies. A gap over the weekend or a spike on news still counts against the daily and maximum floors.

Planning around releases

Mark the week’s high-impact events every Monday. Reduce size or stay flat into a release you are not set up to trade, and remember that spreads widen around the event.

2. Does the News Trading add-on widen the loss limits?
3. Without the weekend add-on, what should you do on Friday?
4. Can add-ons be added to an account later?
